Presentations
--------------------

Trendspotting via Social Media
Nedra Kline Weinreich
(Weinreich Communications/UCLA School of Public Health)

Social media tools like blogs, Twitter and social networks are not just useful for communicating with the groups you want to reach. They are also valuable as "listening" tools to pick up information about news, opinions and trends on the issues you care about. This presentation will demonstrate how to easily set up a social media monitoring system so you won't miss the latest developments and critical conversations happening in your field.

Implementing the Semel Institute Website Using the Drupal Content Management System
Robert Carr (Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior)

Drupal has rapidly gained ground in the past 2 years worldwide as one of the most popular, open source content management systems around.  This presentation will briefly discuss why Drupal was chosen to host the Semel Institute's website, and then weigh up the various features and constraints of using this system.  Although happy to take technical questions, this presentation is aimed at beginners to content management and unit/project managers.

Mike Takahashi (Communications and Public Outreach)
Joseph Maddela (Communications and Public Outreach)
Betsy Metzgar (Events Office)
Kyle Holtan (Events Office)

Happenings (http://happenings.ucla.edu) and the Campus Calendar (http://calendar.ucla.edu) have merged to create the new Happenings Events Calendar. The project has been a close collaboration with Communications and Public and Outreach and the Events Office. This presentation will go over the process of how we redesigned the site and the strategies and technologies that were used to implement it.
