UCLA on YouTube
Genevieve Haines (University Communications)
Joseph Maddela (University Communications)
As part of efforts to reach our audiences where they increasingly spend their time, University Communications has introduced a UCLA channel on YouTube.com. Found at http://www.youtube.com/ucla, the UCLA Channel is designed to serve as a portal to UCLA video content online. UCLA can reach YouTube’s audience of millions of viewers with educational content by sharing courses, lectures, special events and news -- and showing the world what an amazing place UCLA is for students, faculty, staff, alumni, the community and the world.
The presentation will introduce the site and the custom Video Uploader – which enables staff and faculty from across campus (and around the world) to upload videos to be featured on the UCLA YouTube channel. We’ll also look at the programming for the Video Uploader (developed with PHP and utilizing a MySQL database), and do a demo of jQuery Javascript library to manipulate DOM, event handling, animations, and AJAX interactions.
Shooting and Editing Video for the Web
Seth Odell (Office of Media Relations)
Todd Schindler (Office of Media Relations)
This presentation will explore the process of integrating web-based video into UCLA’s current online presence. All stages of the production process will be explored including equipment and start up needs, shooting an interview, editing and compression techniques, and hosting.
